Making a difference in Tianjin: Volunteers from Keppel Land China bring cheer to elderly residents in Han Gu Social Welfare House and children of Xiangyu Autism Mutual Aid Association

With Keppel Land’s continuous commitment to giving back to communities where it operates, volunteers from Keppel Land China’s Tianjin team have become familiar faces at various charities.

On 21 October 2015, volunteers from Keppel Land China (Tianjin) visited elderly residents of Han Gu Social Welfare House to celebrate Double Ninth Festival, which is also known as the Chongyang festival.

The volunteers entertained the elderlies with cross talk skits and opera singing. They also donated an electronic water heater to the Welfare House, which will come in useful as winter approaches.

“It was extremely rewarding to see the elderly residents laughing heartily and clapping along as they watched our performances,” said volunteer Tian Hua, “The Chongyang Festival is an occasion for loved ones to gather together, and also for us to show our respect and appreciation for the elderly.”

Separately on 26 November 2015, eight volunteers from Keppel Land China (Tianjin) paid a special visit to the children of Xiangyu Autism Mutual Aid Association in Tianjin Binhai New Area, in celebration of Thanksgiving Day.

The volunteers engaged the children in fun-filled activities such as community singing, drumming and dancing. Performances and skits were also choreographed to engage and entertain the children.

Through such activities, Keppel Land China hopes to raise society’s awareness and understanding of children with autism as well as support their learning and development.
