In the months of April and May, the Company held its Annual Staff Conferences (ASC) in Singapore and Shanghai, China, creating valuable platforms for strategic collaborations and exchange of best practices.
About 600 employees from Keppel Land’s Singapore and overseas business units gathered at Suntec Convention Centre from 24 to 27 May 2016 for the Company’s Annual Staff Conference (ASC). Themed ‘Forging Ahead as One’, the Conference is a key yearly platform for Keppelites to network and learn from one another’s experiences.
In his opening address, CEO of Keppel Corporation and Chairman of Keppel Land, Mr Loh Chin Hua, reiterated the need for Keppelites across the Group to collaborate and “hunt as a pack”, harnessing the strengths of each business unit for the Group to remain strong.
He also highlighted the importance of agility and innovation, key core values for the Keppel Group.
Mr Loh said, “We need to stay nimble and always be ready to innovate, especially during these challenging times. With the Keppel Group’s presence in 30 countries, we should leverage our international network and courageously explore new ventures in untapped markets.”
In his address to Keppelites, Mr Ang Wee Gee, CEO of Keppel Land, shared Keppel Land’s growth strategies and commended staff on the Company’s creditable performance over the past year.
Sharing that Keppel Land’s strategy of expanding to key overseas markets has served the Company well, Mr Ang said that the Company will continue to sharpen its focus, not just on key countries but in cities as well, such as its five focus cities of Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Tianjin and Wuxi in China, Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam and Greater Jakarta in Indonesia.

He emphasised that Keppel Land is ready to invest strategically in new markets and that the Company has also sharpened its focus on a number of key products, including lifestyle residential developments, Grade A commercial developments, townships, retail and mixed-use developments.
New initiatives such as smart homes, co-working spaces and management of overseas office developments, he shared, were some of the projects the Company is embarking on.
During the opening session, staff were also provided updates on the Company’s performance in its various markets and had the opportunity to pose questions to senior management on a range of matters from market outlook to strategies as well as employees’ career progression during the robust panel discussion.
Over the course of the following four days, Keppel Land staff also participated in a series of workshops and training programmes in topics ranging from sustainability and marketing to finance and property management.
An important annual event in the corporate calendar, Keppel Land China’s ASC was held from 26 to 30 April 2016 in Shanghai, China, to facilitate collaborations and a sharing of ideas amongst employees from across the country.
“We remain confident of the medium term outlook of the real estate market in China, as the underlying fundamentals are still strong,” shared Mr Ang, as he kickstarted Keppel Land China’s ASC.
In his speech, Mr Ang added that despite 2015 being a challenging year, Keppel Land still performed creditably.
Moving forward, the company will tap on its competencies in building high quality homes, offices and retail malls to ride the wave of China’s rapid urbanisation.
Employees also engaged in a robust discussion with Mr Ang and senior management from Keppel Land China, during a Question and Answer segment.
Besides providing an avenue for Keppelites to learn more about the Company’s achievements, strategies and initiatives, the ASC also allows Keppelites to share their experiences, and recognises teams and individuals for their exemplary achievements over the past year.
At this year’s ASC, nine individuals were named Core Value Exemplars for being role models in integrating Keppel’s core values in their daily lives and work.
Work of a winner
Every year, a highlight of the ASC is the Work of a Winner (WoW!) competition, which showcases the innovative spirit and projects from across the Keppel Land Group.
During the competition, teams formed by various business functions showcased projects with out-of-the-box solutions that were implanted during the course of the year.
Of the eight teams that participated this year, the team behind “Challenges in Building Sedona Hotel Yangon’s Inya Wing” by Keppel Land’s Regional Investments team walked away with the Gold award.
Keppel Land China also held a separate WoW! Competition during their staff conference in May, where project teams from Shanghai and Keppel Land China’s headquarters were recognised for their innovative solutions.
Held in conjunction with both staff conferences were the safety conventions for Keppel Land and Keppel Land China, during which project teams were recognised for their contributions to workplace safety.
Keppel Land’s annual Dinner & Dance saw management and staff bonding over an evening of dinner, drinks and dancing.
Held at Mandarin Orchard Hotel, the event, themed ‘Magical Masquerade Ball’, saw staff dressing up as their favourite masked characters, ranging from bandits to Victorian royalty.
During the dinner, awards were presented to long-serving Keppelites in recognition of their contributions. Novelty awards, such as Best Dressed, were also given out.
