Inclined to embrace different cultures and always open to new experiences, Ryan Alexander Lower seized the opportunity to uproot from his hometown in Canada and move to Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), Vietnam, in 2003.
With seven years of facilities management experience under his belt, Ryan took up the role of Property Manager for Saigon Centre Phase 1 with Keppel Land (Vietnam) in August 2011. He is currently the Deputy Director of Property Management.
“Looking back, the move to HCMC was indeed serendipitous as that was where I met my wife, Iris,” Ryan quipped. A large part of Ryan’s positivity stems from the immense pride he feels for his nine-year old son, Ryan Junior, or RJ, who “amazes him with his knowledge and keenness.”
“This stint has been enriching for both myself and for my entire family”, Ryan said, noting how RJ has picked up different languages at a young age.
“Having acclimatised myself to working in Asia, I want to continue working in Vietnam or even other parts of Southeast Asia, given the chance. In fact, I wouldn’t mind retiring here!”
With the ongoing construction of the Saigon Centre Phase 2 development, Ryan ensures smooth day-to-day operations for existing tenants. He also contributes to the planning and designing of the mixed-use development, which will include premium Grade A office space, 47,000 sm of retail space and luxury serviced apartments when fully completed. The Phase 2 retail mall is slated to open in 3Q 2016.
As Chairman of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee for Keppel Land (Vietnam), Ryan has spearheaded a wide variety of CSR efforts, including the company’s adoption of two schools in the rural district of HCMC.
An avid reader with wide interests spanning from fantasy, action to personnel management books, Ryan is usually engrossed in a good book during the weekends when he is not taking long walks with his family along the spectacular beaches of Vietnam or indulging in local delicacies.
Encouraging Keppelites who aspire to uproot and try something new abroad, Ryan said, “Continuously learn from all around you and you will definitely make your new posting enjoyable and memorable!”
